Black Alpine Pig
State recognition as an old Swiss breed
In a decision dated 10 July 2026, the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture recognised the Black Alpine Pigs as an ancient indigenous livestock breed. This means that the breed should now be eligible for support measures. Efforts are also currently underway in Lombardy to have the ‘Nero delle Alpi’ recognised as an ancient indigenous breed.
